SVI Social Value Matters 2017 conference, Istanbul, Turkey

Monday, April 10, 2017 5:00 am - Tuesday, April 11, 2017 1:00 pm
This event does not repeat

Update: First details about the agenda are now available here.

This years conference is being held against a backdrop of increasing inequality and global uncertainty. Social Value International ‘s vision is a world where decision making, ways of working and resource allocation are based on the principles of accounting for value leading to increased equality and well-being and reduced environmental degradation.

Fundamental to this is our principle that those affected have to be involved and able to hold organisations to account for those consequences. This year we want to focus on what needs to happen to amplifying stakeholder voices to inspire change and maximise social value to the point that equality does improve. There will be a focus on how we can use social impact data to drive innovation and ensure stakeholder involvement in service design. We will be sharing experiences of what’s worked in changing culture, systems, techniques and legislation, running smaller group discussions and round tables so that we can all contribute.

This year our conference will be in Istanbul in partnership with Koç University Social Impact Forum, an international university located in Istanbul a city where the East and West meet, where a global perspective blends with the regional dynamics and cultures making it the ideal location. We will be hosted by Koç University Social Impact Forum, just outside the main centre of Istanbul and have the run of the facilities. This means we will be able to have many small group sessions, reflecting international and sector experiences and themed around principles, people, practice and power. Sessions will mainly be in English with some in Turkish.

We are currently looking for content suggestions so if you have ideas about what you would like to see or an idea you would like to share, please get in touch with Christina on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) is an inclusive platform for all G20 countries, interested non-G20 countries and relevant stakeholders to carry forward work on financial inclusion, including implementation of the G20 Financial Inclusion Action Plan, endorsed at the G20 Summit in Seoul.

At the G20 Summit in Seoul, the Leaders of the G20, recognizing financial inclusion as one of the main pillars of the global development agenda, endorsed a concrete Financial Inclusion Action Plan. Financial inclusion was not only prominently included in the Leaders' Declaration(link is external), but was also highlighted as an important component under the Seoul Development Consensus(link is external) and the financial sector reform agenda. Subsequently, the Leaders announced the establishment of the GPFI to institutionalize and continue the work began by the Financial Inclusion Experts Group (FIEG) in 2010. The GPFI was officially launched on 10 December 2010 in Seoul.

The GPFI's efforts include helping countries put into practice the G20 Principles for Innovative Financial Inclusion, strengthening data for measuring financial inclusion, and developing methodologies for countries wishing to set targets.

Now in its third year, ABF continues to flourish and expand its reach among financial inclusion institutions throughout sub Saharan Africa.  To date, the program has welcomed more than 125 CEOs and Board members from over 40 institutions across 35 countries. Virtual Forum: Fellows engage in regular knowledge-sharing activities, online meetings, training and discussion forums. This virtual community forum provides regularly updated content on governance and risk, and the ability to speak with faculty, classmates or subject-matter experts. This content will be supplemented by webinars in which participants can connect on specific technical questions and share personal experiences.

Program Advising: Personal advisors help fellows to establish individual and institution governance goals, working with them toward specific changes they seek to make.
