Investor webinar: Providing feedback on draft digital credit standards

Join this webinar, which is open to investors only, to provide feedback on Smart Campaign's draft digital credit standards. The draft standards build off of the Client Protection Principles and Client Protection Standards to encompass emerging risks to low-income customers of digital credit. This webinar will be focused on gathering feedback from investors. Webinar: New SPTF working group on customer empowerment

SPTF is launching a new working group, which will consider how the Universal Standards for SPM can contribute to customer empowerment, what we can learn from existing research (notably from CGAP), where we still have gaps in knowledge, and what action research we might undertake to learn how to strengthen customers' empowerment from the start of their engagement with a financial service provider. MFC Annual Conference

Early bird registration is available now for the Microfinance Centre's (MFC) Annual Conference, which will focus on "Demystifying Digital in Microfinance." The conference will use case studies, trend analysis and emerging best practices to address the practical side of digitalization. SPTF will lead a session on how investors and networks can support MFIs in digital transformation. Early bird registraton closes March 31

African Microfinance Week

African Microfinance Week, known as the Semaine Africaine de la Microfinance or "SAM," is a biennial conference organized by ADA that is dedicated to the development of finanical inclusion in Africa. Participants will identify and discuss the contributions that the African inclusive finance sector has made toward the Sustainable Developement Goals (SDGs) and consider how to deepen the work.

Join SPTF and the Smart Campaign for a joint summit in Kenya 

SPTF and the Smart Campaign are pleased to invite you to their joint summit in Nairobi, Inclusive Digital Future: A Summit on Responsible Finance in Action, from June 25-27.   

Over the course of this three-day international forum -- organized in partnership with MSC (MicroSave Consulting) and ADA -- we will confront the most pressing financial inclusion question of the day: How do we promote inclusion and trust in digital financial services while fostering innovation and growth? The gathering will bring together financial service providers, investors, and DFS experts for two days of trainings, panels, and interactive breakout discussions, capped off by field visits to leading Kenyan institutions engaged in digital transformation. Scholarships available to attend the Summit! 
Scholarships are available through SPTF's responsible inclusive finance (RIF) facilities to attend the Summit. All may apply, with priority given to financial service providers, networks, and consultants whose work relates to digital transformation that integrates social performance management.

Application forms are available from each facility's website: Responsible Microfinance Facilty for Africa and the Middle East (deadline: March 12); Responsible Inclusive Finance Facility for the Caribbean and Central America (deadline: March 15); and the Responsible Inclusive Finance Faciliy for Southeast Asia (deadline: March 22).

SPTF regrets that no scholarships are available to applicants outside of the regions served by the facilities. 

Join us in DC for the investor meeting! 

The draft agenda for the upcoming IFC and SPTF Social Investor Working Group Investor Forum -- Responsible Finance for Digital Inclusion: Investing for Impact -- is now available hereThe Forum, which is open to investors only, will be held April 3-4, 2019 at IFC's headquarters in Washington, D.C. Registration is available here.

Participants will have an opportunity to share investment lessons in social performance and impact management, discuss recent strategies for digital transformation, and share the latest developments in impact investing tools for financial inclusion and the larger impact space, which are critical to achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  The meeting will also include deep-dive sessions about how investors in financial inclusion and digital financial services (DFS) can assess and manage risks in the rapidly evolving digital finance landscape. Discussions will include the latest initiatives among co-founding and new signatories of the Guidelines for Investing in Responsible Digital Financial Services and their importance for impact investing.

Regional responsible inclusive finance (RIF) facilities


Apply now for co-financing and trainings! 

The SPTF now manages three regional SPM implementation facilities, each of which aims to strengthen the capacity and SPM practices of financial service providers in its region. The facilities cover Africa, the Middle East, Central America, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia. 

Each facility offers trainings that focus on SPM-related tools, as well as building the capacity of local consultants and networks to improve SPM. The facilities also co-finance activities that are designed to help FSPs begin to assess their SPM practices and implement improvements, including in the areas of digital readiness assessment and digital transformation.

Each facility accepts applications on a rolling basis and reviews them quarterly. The facilities and their upcoming deadlines are listed below: 

  • Responsible Microfinance Facility (RMF) for Africa and the Middle East. Funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), with additional project funding from the Government of Luxembourg via the European Investment Bank (EIB).   • Responsible Inclusive Finance Facility for Central America and the Caribbean (RIFF-CAC). Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), with additional project funding from the Government of Luxembourg via the EIB. To learn more about the facility, visit its webpage. The next application deadline is March 15.
  • Responsible Inclusive Finance Facility for Southeast Asia (RIFF-SEA). Funded by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg. To learn more about the facility, visit its webpage. The next application deadline is March 22
