Microfinance for ecosystem-based adaptation - Options, costs and benefits

This serie of fact sheets, published by UNEP-MeBA, presents 40 options that can be financed through microfinance products and that enable small-scale farmers to reduce their vulnerability to cimate change and mitigate their adverse impacts on the environment. Each fact sheet describes the selected option, its contribution to reducing climate and environmental risks, the required inputs and costs to be financed, its benefits and limitations.

Esta serie de fichas descriptivas, publicada por UNEP-MeBA, presenta 40 medidas que pueden ser financiadas a través de productos de microfinanzas y que permiten a los pequeños agricultores reducir su vulnerabilidad al cambio climático y mitigar sus impactos negativos sobre el medio ambiente. Cada ficha describe la medida seleccionada, su contribución a la reducción de los riesgos climáticos y ambientales, los insumos necesarios y los costos a financiar, sus beneficios y limitaciones.

Cette série de fiches pratiques, publiée par UNEP-MeBA, présente 40 options qui peuvent être financées par des produits de microfinance et qui permettent aux petits agriculteurs de réduire leur vulnérabilité au changement climatique et d'atténuer leurs impacts négatifs sur l'environnement. Chaque fiche décrit l'option retenue, sa contribution à la réduction des risques climatiques et environnementaux, les intrants nécessaires et les coûts à financer, ses avantages et ses limites.

L'agriculture Ouest-Africaine face au changement climatique

Cette publication, publiée par UNEP-MeBA, présente les principaux enjeux liés au changement climatique pour l'agriculture en Afrique de l'Ouest et analyse le rôle que peut jouer la microfinance dans l'adoption de solutions d'adaptation fondées sur les écosystèmes. Elle a été conçue comme un outil de soutien pour aider les décideurs au sein des IMF à mettre au point des produits financiers et du matériel de promotion adaptés.

Kompanion's Credit for Conservation

This video presents Kompanion's Land Management Training Initiative, which provides a specialized "Credit for Conservation" loan linked to a training program for livestock farmers on grazing land management and preservation. Under this program, Kompanion works to address widespread land degradation in the country, particularly adjoining rural villages. Kompanion is a microfinance institution based in Kirghistan, winner of the 5th European Microfinance Award.

Acces to finance for Renewable Energy technologies - How to do

This note, published by IFAD, provides guidance on how to develop financial services for access to renewable energy technologies in rural areas. It focuses on end-user finance for individual/stand-alone RE solutions for rural households, smallholder farmers, and rural micro, small and medium enterprises. The note provides specific recommendations to FSPs for financial product design and project implementation.

Renewable Energy & Energy Efficient Products Catalogue

This serie of fact sheets, developed by the GICSF Action Group, presents 14 Renewable Energy or Energy Efficient devices for poor households and microentrepreneurs that can be financed through microfinance products. Each fact sheet describes the selected option, its ease of distribution, installation and maintenance, the required costs to be financed, and its benefits for end-users, MFIs and the environment.

XacBank's Eco Product Program

This video presents XacBank’s Eco Product Program, under which it has facilitated the purchase of over 150,000 energy efficient heating and insulation products to poor ger district households in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia). Gers are traditional nomadic yurts that are costly and highly polluting to eat with traditional coal stoves. XacBank provides microcredit to purchase fuel efficient stoves for families who otherwise spend up to 45% of their income on heating during the winter months.

ESAF's Clean Energy for the Poor Initiative

This video presents ESAF’s Clean Energy for the Poor initiative, which provides rural clients with solar energy solutions, efficient cook stoves, and water filters. ESAF is an India based microfinance institution, finalist of the 5th European Microfinance Award.
